Donyell Malen joins AS Roma on loan-to-buy deal from Aston Villa | OneFootball

Dutch forward Donyell Malen has joined AS Roma from Aston Villa after just one year in the Premier League.

While the Villans say the deal has been completed for an undisclosed fee, a statement from the Giallorossi says it is a loan with an option to buy.

Following his move to the West Midlands from Borussia Dortmund in January 2025, the 26-year-old Malen scored 10 goals in 46 appearances for Unai Emery’s side.

This term, he has scored seven goals for Villa but has ultimately struggled for regular playing time, making just five league starts in 21 appearances.

After initial development with Ajax and Arsenal’s youth academies, Malen began his senior professional career at PSV Eindhoven before moving to Dortmund in 2021.

In total, he has scored 104 goals in 294 club appearances, as well as 13 goals in 49 games for the Netherlands national team. He will wear the number 14 shirt at Roma, who are currently fifth in Serie A.
