Real Madrid endured a disastrous night in Sevilla as they lost the Copa Del Rey title to arch-rivals Barcelona by a 2-3 scoreline.

If the defeat wasn’t enough, Real Madrid also received two injury blows on the night as key players picked up fresh knocks that could further reduce Carlo Ancelotti’s options heading into the final phase of the campaign.

Alarm bells over Vinicius’ fitness

According to Diario AS, late in the match, Vinícius Junior raised concern after signaling to the bench and requesting a substitution in the 88th minute — just as the team was pushing for extra time.

Having found increasing space down the left wing, Vinicius was one of Madrid’s biggest threats throughout the game.

But after yet another powerful run, he suddenly stopped, grimaced, and dropped to the ground. His immediate gesture to the bench sent warning signals, and Brahim Díaz was rushed onto the pitch to replace him by the 89th minute.

As Vinícius walked off, he was seen shaking his head. This is not a good sign for Real Madrid, who hvae a La Liga clash against Celta Vigo next Sunday and an away trip to face Barcelona again at Montjuïc shortly after.

Ferland Mendy to return to the sidelines?

Vinicius’ scare was the second major injury concern of the night. Earlier, Ferland Mendy, making his comeback after 46 days out, lasted only eight minutes before pulling up injured without contact.

Visibly distraught, Mendy was quickly replaced by Fran Garcia, who suddenly finds himself thrust into a key role.

Ancelotti’s options at left-back had already been stretched thin after injuries to David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga earlier in the season. Now, with Mendy once again sidelined, Ancelotti has no option but to continue with Garcia.
