Gayà suffered two blows to the head during Sevilla’s match with Valencia, the game stopping for several minutes, and was later taken to a Seville hospital as a precaution.
According to Superdeporte, the Valencia captain remained conscious throughout, in line with LaLiga protocols that demand caution and a change if there is any loss of consciousness. The stoppage came around the quarter hour.
The first collision arrived in an aerial challenge after a right-wing cross with Juanlu Sánchez, leaving Gayà on the turf and needing treatment from club doctor Juan Aliaga. Jesús Vázquez began warming up and almost came on.
Gayà insisted on continuing and told referee García Verdura he could carry on. Seconds after returning, another aerial duel near the flank saw his head clash again with Juanlu.
He tried to play on but sat down in pain on 24 minutes and was replaced by Vázquez. On the bench, he indicated his vision was not clear after the impacts. A positive evolution is expected in the coming hours.
The match continued with both Sevilla and Valencia pursuing three vital points.
