Southampton will travel to Molineux to face Wolves in a crucial Premier League game on Saturday.
It is a clash between the two teams at the bottom. Wolves are at rock bottom with only three points on board, and the Saints are just above them on four points.
Despite spending big in the summer, they have made a wretched start, and Russell Martin is under pressure to keep his job.
Southampton have picked up two wins in a row in all competitions, but most importantly they picked up their first win in the Premier League last week when they defeated Everton 1-0.
According to Alex Crook of talkSPORT, a victory for Wolves could spell trouble for the Southampton boss.
Along with Gary O’Neil of Wolves, Martin is also under a lot of pressure ahead of the crunch clash between the two sides on Saturday.
Southampton are hopeful that Martin will be able to turn the situation around. He retains the support of sporting director Rasmus Ankersen, but Serbian billionaire owner “Dragan Solak has grown impatient” with poor results.
This is a must-win game for the Saints. If they lose against the bottom side in the Premier League, the fans will lose patience with the manager, and the board could feel the same vibe as well.
The victory against Everton will give them enormous confidence ahead of the game, and another victory before the international break will be massive for Southampton.
The thing with Wolves is that they can score, but at the same time, they are shockingly poor at the back.
Southampton will face the likes of Liverpool, Brighton, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur after the international break, and they might find it extremely hard to get anything from those games.
Martin’s time at St Mary’s could be over by the end of December, but Southampton could make the sack call if the Saints fail to beat Wolves tomorrow.
