Paulo Dybala’s former agent explains why he decided to leave Roma to ‘earn a load of money’ in Saudi Arabia with Al-Qadsiah and sees parallels with the way he left Juventus.

The Argentina international had hoped to begin this season as the focus point of their attack, but the arrival of Matias Soulé and Artem Dovbyk if anything made him a square peg in a round tactical hole.

He is now in the process of completing a €3-4m plus bonuses move to Al-Qadsiah, where the player is set to earn €75m over a three-year contract.

Dybala felt ‘lack of faith’ at Roma

Someone who knows him well, former agent Claudio Anellucci, told TMW Radio what is going through Dybala’s mind.

“He is a lad who needs to feel himself at the centre of everything that goes on around him. As soon as he feels there is a lack of faith, you lose 50 per cent of Dybala as a man and a player.

“Evidently, he went to a meeting with the coach and realised he could not be Dybala at 100 per cent. So he preferred to go and earn a load of money rather than remain just to be any old player.

“The same thing happened at Juventus, and he let the contract run down, hoping that he could be signed by Inter.”

Instead, La Joya joined Roma in 2022 and went on to make 78 appearances, scoring 34 goals and providing 18 assists.

Once again, his career was blighted by repeated injury problems and on the verge of turning 31 in November, it was not going to get any better.

“The adventure at Roma was pretty much in line with what people expected, with his fragility, falls and relapses,” continued Anellucci.

“When a player is scared of injuring himself, it becomes a problem. He could’ve done a lot more at Roma.”
