Vincent Kompany is suspended for FC Bayern’s first leg of the semi-final against PSG – but the team remains calm internally
FC Bayern will be without head coach Vincent Kompany for their Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain. The Belgian is suspended after picking up his third yellow card in the competition and will watch Tuesday’s first leg from the stands
Nevertheless, sporting director Max Eberl was relaxed ahead of the Munich team’s departure: „I don’t think it matters to the team. Of course, Vincent Kompany is our head coach and we would all have liked to have him on board. It’s a shame, but that’s the way it is now and we’ve come to terms with it,“ explained the 52-year-old
Kompany will be replaced on the touchline by his assistant Aaron Danks. The 42-year-old knows the processes in the coaching team inside out and enjoys the full trust of those in charge
„He doesn’t need to get any tips because the two have been working incredibly closely together for several years now,“ emphasized Eberl. „They know exactly what makes them tick, and Aaron knows exactly what Vini wants, how he wants it and how he wants to implement it in his own way. That’s why I’m not worried.“
Eberl also sees no problems within the team, saying that the players are well prepared and familiar with the tactical guidelines: „Everyone knows the things we want to implement, both defensively and offensively.“
The sporting director particularly emphasized the qualities of Danks: „He is a super smart guy on and off the pitch. He is there with heart and soul. He is on fire.“
Despite the ban, Kompany will not be able to completely take control of the game. Although the coach is not allowed to enter the dressing room or have direct contact with the bench – UEFA strictly monitors this – Eberl still believes he has influence

„He will still exert his influence wherever possible. He is an incredible coach,“ the Bayern boss made clear
The starting position therefore remains clear: even without their head coach, the Munich team want to lay the foundations for a place in the final at the Prinzenpark. There is great confidence in the coaching team and the squad – Kompany’s signature should remain visible even without his direct presence on the touchline.
