According to Sunderland Echo, fresh £100 million talk around Sandro Tonali has become an unwelcome sideshow before Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby.
Tonali’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, has suggested a move to a title-chasing club such as Arsenal or Manchester City could form part of the midfielder’s plan. He also believes Tonali is among the highest‑valued Italian players.
The noise arrives days before Newcastle face Sunderland at St James’ Park. Tonali joined from AC Milan in 2023 for about £52 million and is under contract until 2029, with an option for a further year.
Interest could grow this summer, particularly if he shines on the international stage. Riso has hinted the World Cup may influence the next phase, with scenarios likely to unfold after the tournament.
Tonali missed the 1-0 Premier League win over Chelsea at the weekend through illness, the same bug that has affected Nick Woltemade and Anthony Gordon. Eddie Howe is hopeful he returns soon as Newcastle prepare for a demanding run that includes a Champions League last‑16 tie with Barcelona.
He has three goals and seven assists in 46 appearances this season and played a major role in last year’s Carabao Cup triumph. Newcastle are understood to be reluctant sellers and would seek around £80 million to £100 million if their resolve were tested.
