Eddie Howe has indicated Sandro Tonali and Joe Willock are likely to be fully fit for Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby at St James' Park, while Lewis Miley will be absent.
According to Sunderland Echo, Miley suffered a dead leg that caused muscle damage and has been out since late January. He had aimed for Wednesday's Champions League last-16 second leg in Barcelona as his comeback, but did not travel and is likely to be out until after the international break.
Tonali was due to be assessed in training that day, described as the first day he had been seen, and any decision on Barcelona would follow if he felt strong enough. Willock would also be checked in training, with hope he would be fine.
Willock had taken a knock before being withdrawn in the second half of the 1-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday. Both players have travelled and could be involved at Spotify Camp Nou tomorrow.
The head coach believes Newcastle are as confident as at any stage this season, describing himself as the happiest he has been, and he hopes they are peaking at the right time.
