It was widely expected that Eddie Howe would select Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall as his full-backs against Arsenal on Sunday.

One was stretchered off and the other not even named in the matchday squad.

As well as the obvious disappointment of the late late defeat, concern also amongst Newcastle United fans for the two young England defenders.

Lewis Hall having only recently fully recovered to full fitness after missing the final months of last season and having surgery.

As for Tino Livramento, the 77th minute when jumping to head the ball and whilst he was in mid-air, a really bad challenge from Saliba who made no attempt to jump and compete for the ball. Instead, running into Tino and causing him to land awkwardly. Not even a yellow card for the Arsenal player who fouled him, whilst Tino Livramento tried to play on but clearly was in some distress and had to then be carried off the pitch after treatment.

Following the match, Eddie Howe quizzed on the situations regarding the two players.

The Newcastle United Head Coach asked what was the issue with Lewis Hall, a major new problem or would he be available for Wednesday’s Champions League game against Union Saint-Gilloise?

“We hope so.

“Lewis was suffering a little bit of fatigue in his body.

“But we hope he will be available [for Wednesday’s match].”

As for how it was looking with Tino Livramento, Eddie Howe after the final whistle:

“I have got no update to give other than that I know what you all know.

“Seeing Tino go off in that manner was really distressing.

“He has been such a big player for us in so many different ways, his versatility, his attitude, his quality.

“If we are going to miss that for any length of time, that is going to be a huge blow.”

Eddie Howe also confirmed that it is feared to be an issue with Livramento’s knee, causing an injury to it the way he landed.

Like the rest of you, I am absolutely gutted to see Tino Livramento injured, especially the way that it happened. Plus the Saliba receiving no punishment for what looked a cowardly challenge to me.

A big relief though that Lewis Hall doesn’t appear to give cause for concern, rather a case of starting two matches (Bournemouth and Bradford) in quick succession after so little football for a long period of time.

As for Tino Livramento, hoping against hope that it proves to be something that was very painful at the time but that when he goes for the hospital scans on Monday, there is no serious damage.
