Real Madrid do not expect Eder Militao to return from his anterior cruciate ligament injury for another nine months, reports in Spain say.
The centre-back suffered another ACL blow earlier this month, having sustained the same issue last season. It took him seven months to recover the first time, but he isn't likely to be available again in 2024/25.
A statement from Madrid said: "Our player Eder Militao has successfully undergone surgery today on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The operation was performed by Dr. Manuel Leyes, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services.
"Militao will start his recovery process in the next few days."
Spanish publication AS say a quick comeback is not expected from the 26-year-old, with the club's intention being for Militao to return in time for pre-season in 2025.
The former Sao Paulo and Porto star's injury has further restricted the options at manager Carlo Ancelotti's disposal. David Alaba is still recovering from an ACL issue of his own, having not played since December 2023.

Los Blancos did not sign a new centre-back during the summer after losing out to Manchester United for Leny Yoro, leaving Madrid short on alternatives. Antonio Rudiger is fit and playing regularly and youngster Raul Asencio came on for Militao during the 4-0 crushing of Osasuna before the November international break. Jesus Vallejo is making up the numbers in the squad, having made just one substitute appearance in La Liga despite the injuries.
Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is also an option, having filled in at the back during Madrid's run to Champions League glory last season.
Former club captain Nacho Fernandez has already ruled out a return to his old club, while fellow ex-skipper Sergio Ramos has been disregarded as a potential option despite speculation suggesting he could go back to the Bernabeu.
The reigning Spanish and European champions have a number of other injury concerns before Sunday's trip to Leganes. Tchouameni and Lucas Vazquez are expected to miss out, while Dani Carvajal is a long-term absentee. There are further doubts over the availability of Thibaut Courtois and Rodrygo.
