Éder Militao will undergo surgery this week after a hamstring relapse, and is expected to be sidelined for around five months, ruling him out of the World Cup and the start of Real Madrid’s next season.
El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that the Brazilian suffered the setback against Alavés and was substituted.
After weighing up recovery options, he has opted for an operation and will travel to Finland to be treated by Lasse Lempainen, regarded as one of the leading specialists.
This season he has endured four injuries, two of them significant, disrupting any rhythm. When fit, he has been the team’s defensive cornerstone.
Across the past three seasons he has managed only 13 (23/24), 18 (24/25) and 21 (25/26) appearances in all competitions.
At 28, persistent fitness problems are hampering his career. He is under contract until 2028 and his market value has fallen from 70 million euros to 25 million. With his availability uncertain, the club will have to consider entering the market this summer for reinforcements in central defence, potentially more than one.
