Edu's future as Nottingham Forest's global head of football is back under scrutiny after a turbulent season that has dragged the club into a relegation fight.
The BBC reports that an exit may be looming for the Brazilian, a suggestion the Reds dismiss. The Telegraph says the 47-year-old missed last week's Europa League play-off second leg against Fenerbahce and Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Brighton.
Edu arrived last July to help Forest kick on as they prepared for a first European campaign in 30 years. Instead of building on last season's seventh-placed finish, three managers have been sacked and form has faltered.
Hailed as a coup after leaving his role as Arsenal's sporting director, he was tasked with working across Evangelos Marinakis' portfolio, including Olympiacos and Rio Ave as well as Forest. The club said he would oversee recruitment, performance, squad planning and player development.
This season has been fractious on Trentside. A falling-out between Edu and Nuno Espirito Santo was central to Nuno's dismissal in September, with Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche later taking charge before Vitor Pereira became the fourth head coach last month.
Pereira is yet to win a Premier League game but has steered Forest into the Europa League last 16. They visit Manchester City on Wednesday at 7.30pm, sitting two points above the bottom three.
