According to NY Times, Edu is set to leave his role as Nottingham Forest’s global head of football, eight months after arriving at the City Ground. The Brazilian was appointed in July 2025 after leaving Arsenal in November 2024 following five years at the Emirates.
Forest’s season has been chaotic, with Edu’s position under scrutiny and him absent from recent matches, including the 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Wednesday night. He works across Evangelos Marinakis’s football empire, which also includes Olympiacos and Rio Ave.
The Athletic reported in August that the 47-year-old did not see eye to eye with then head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, and a falling out would become a catalyst for the Portuguese to leave. Nuno had signed a new contract on 20 June and was expected to operate under Edu in the new structure.
Nuno left on 8 September, Ange Postecoglou replaced him the next day for a 39-day reign that ended on 18 October. Sean Dyche was confirmed on 21 October, a brief upturn followed before Forest switched again in February, appointing Vitor Pereira as their fourth manager of the campaign.
Although Edu was not a major influence on the head coach appointments, the transfers he oversaw have drawn scrutiny. He drove a £200 million recruitment that delivered 13 signings, many yet to make an impact. Loan deals for Oleksandr Zinchenko and Douglas Luiz, both influenced by Edu, were ended early, Arnaud Kalimuendo moved to Eintracht Frankfurt on loan and January arrival Lorenzo Lucca has also struggled.
There have been some positives, with Igor Jesus stepping up during Chris Wood’s injury, Jair Cunha showing promise in defence and club-record £35 million signing Omari Hutchinson offering potential. Forest sit 17th in the Premier League, above West Ham United and the relegation zone on goal difference only, and are in the Europa League last-16.
