Birmingham City's latest signing, Eiran Cashin, has sent an exciting message to supporters following his arrival from Brighton.

Birmingham City have pulled off the loan signing of Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Eiran Cashin - and he's sent a warning to the rest of the Championship on Blues' behalf.

The defender only joined the Seagulls in January, after he impressed at Derby County, earning a £9 million move to the Premier League.

While the 23-year-old got a taste of top-flight action last season, his game time was limited, and with Olivier Boscagli and Diego Coppola joining Brighton, Cashin has fallen further down the pecking order at the Amex Stadium.

Therefore, a loan move has always been on the cards this summer, with Brighton sending the former Republic of Ireland youth international out to get regular game time.

Speaking to club media following his arrival, Cashin didn't hold back in his message to the supporters, while sending a warning to the rest of the Championship.

"Strap in, because we're gonna have a hell of a season," said the Irish defender, who became the Blues' 11th addition of the summer on Friday.

Cashin also gave his reasoning for making the switch to the second city after his announcement.

"You can see in the media, everything that’s going on in the club, and you can see the trajectory and the way it’s going. That’s something that’s hard not to buy into. I know the owners, and the investment has been really good for the club, and I know the manager and his style of play, and the players that have come into the club recently have all been really positive.

"It shows where the club is heading, so again, it was an easy one to buy into. With everything going on and how well they (Birmingham) did last season, you’d always be watching it, even if you were in the changing rooms before a game, you would see Birmingham and how they were getting on and the results, and the amount of points accumulated.

"It was impressive, and that’s something I want to be part of this season going forward. I know it will be a lot tougher this season, but I’m more than willing to add my part to the group."

After making his first-team debut at Pride Park in 2021, he became an ever-present for Derby and was named in the League One Team of the Year as they won promotion to the Championship in 2023/24.

Cashin went on to make 144 appearances before signing for Brighton in January, with the defender making his Premier League debut against Aston Villa back in April.

It has been a fantastic window for Blues so far, with the club already looking as though they have a squad that is capable of pushing for automatic promotion this season.

The additions of Kyogo Furuhashi, Demarai Gray and Tommy Doyle, respectively, highlight the incredible ambition they have to make it to back-to-back promotions next season, after Chris Davies' side took League One by storm last term.

Birmingham may be a side coming up from the third tier who the regular promotion contenders are looking to put back in their place, but the Blues continue to send out signals that can't be ignored.

The ambition of the club has been matched with proven, solid signings for the Championship, and the club aren't looking to hang about in the division for long.

It's not unreasonable to suggest that Birmingham could be well among those fighting for promotion come May, whether the more established contenders like it or not.

While the new addition, Phil Neumann, and last season's star defender, Christoph Klarer, are quality players, they need another centre-back for numbers. Cashin will provide excellent competition for the duo, and Davies is going to have a big decision to make regarding who his first-choice pairing is going to be.

But for a manager, it is a luxury to have, and Cashin will now be working in training to try and earn a place in the Birmingham XI for the opener against Ipswich Town on August 8.
