Claims linking Eliezer Mayenda with Porto have been heavily played down in Portugal, with three leading sports newspapers dismissing talk of advanced negotiations.
Earlier reports had suggested Porto were in advanced talks with Sunderland, but O Jogo countered that Mayenda is not on the club’s recruitment list. Sunderland Echo understands the forward wants regular football.
A Bola reports that Porto have not opened negotiations with Sunderland for the 21-year-old.
Record writes that the forward is not currently among Porto’s attacking targets.
The Porto link has therefore weakened, though Mayenda’s situation remains one to watch this summer. Rennes have been credited with an interest in the player.
Sunderland hold a strong hand, with Mayenda under contract until 2030 and no need to accept a cut-price offer. He joined from Sochaux and has shown flashes, including a goal in the Championship play-off final win over Sheffield United. Competition for minutes has increased with Brian Brobbey and Wilson Isidor emerging.
