The match took place at the 3Arena in Stockholm, the venue for a four-team mini-tournament that also features hosts Hammarby and Ukraine’s Metalist Kharkiv.

Metalist Kharkiv lost 5–4 to Hammarby in the opening game, meaning Manchester United will face the Swedish side on Saturday for a place in the third qualifying round.

Elisabeth Terland the star of the show for Manchester United

Elisabeth Terland opened the scoring for Manchester United inside seven minutes, punishing a PSV defensive error after Lisa Naalsund’s pressing work. That early breakthrough set the tone for the game.

In the first half, Celin Bizet Donnum reacted quickest to a loose ball to double the lead. Terland struck again after the interval, before completing her hat-trick with a calm finish from close range.

Her clinical edge was matched by the creativity behind her. Ella Toone provided key assists for Terland’s second and third goals, pulling the strings in midfield.

Speaking to the club’s website after United’s 4-0 win over PSV, Terland stated: “I think yeah we came here to do the job and put on a good performance.”

She also reflected on her performance: “We dominated this game fully and we get the result. I get some goals and it is good to get going. It is the first game of a long season, so yeah, just focus on the next game. Yeah, happy with the performance.”

Commenting on her hat-trick, Terland added, “I just said to some of the girls, it has been a two-goal curse going on with me. It’s been a while since I have scored a hat-trick. I think it’s the sign of hopefully a positive season for myself as well.”

Manchester United show depth in PSV victory

The performance was not all about Terland. New signing Julia Zigiotti Olme impressed on her competitive debut, controlling possession and driving play from midfield.

Manager Marc Skinner was also encouraged by the balance of his side, despite being without star recruit Fridolina Rolfo, who was unavailable due to fitness issues following Euro 2025.

The result reflected United’s high press, sharp transitions, and attacking quality. PSV struggled to create clear chances, while United could have added more goals late on.

Focus turns to Hammarby

The showdown with Hammarby on Saturday will determine who progresses to the third qualifying round, played over two legs.

Looking ahead to the upcoming match against Hammarby, Terland said: “Now, it is just about resetting and going again.

“We knew that we needed to do the job in this game. Now we are going to face a difficult challenge going up against a better team.

“So yeah, we just need to do our preparation well and be prepared for what is coming. We should have good opportunities in that game to do things properly.”
