Elliot Anderson was absent from Nottingham Forest training on Wednesday ahead of their Europa League quarter-final second leg against Porto.

He missed out due to personal reasons, and it is unclear whether he will also be absent on Thursday night. According to Nottingham Post, the England international did not take part as the squad were put through their paces at the Nigel Doughty Academy.

Porto visit the City Ground on Thursday, with an eight pm kick-off. The tie is level after a 1-1 first leg in Portugal.

Head coach Vitor Pereira is likely to rotate again, as in previous European fixtures, with Burnley at home in the Premier League on Sunday.

Pereira is expected to address Anderson’s availability in his pre-match press conference this afternoon.

Injured pair Willy Boly and John Victor worked away from the main group as they continue their recoveries. Centre-back Boly may well have played his last game for the club, given he is out of contract in the summer and was left out of the Reds’ revised squads for the second half of the campaign. Goalkeeper John is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a knee problem.

There was no sign of full-back Nicolo Savona at the open session, and the Italian is also unlikely to be involved in the final games of this term after knee surgery.

Forest began what could be a season-defining week by drawing 1-1 with Aston Villa on Sunday, Neco Williams’ equaliser securing a point. With six games remaining, the Reds sit three points above the relegation zone. Pereira has been clear that retaining top-flight status is the priority, though a European semi-final, potentially against Villa, would be welcomed.
