Manchester United have three top midfield targets in mind as they look to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s options in the middle of the park.
With Kobbie Mainoo expected to ask to leave, INEOS will try and sign one of — Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, or Adam Wharton in January. But following the club’s summer splurge, the trio are likely to stay put for the time being.
But a renewed push is expected next summer, with the Nottingham Forest ace likely to be the top target following his incredible audition against the Red Devils a few weeks ago.
Forest value their talisman at a whopping £100 million, while the 20-time English league champions feel they can close the deal for around £60 million.
However, it will be far from an easy chase, given the sheer number of teams chasing his signature. Now, Liverpool have also joined the race.

But Teamtalk have revealed that the Englishman prefers a move to Old Trafford over a switch to Anfield as he wants to play under Amorim.
“Liverpool are interested in bringing Elliot Anderson to Anfield but sources have told TEAMtalk that the Nottingham Forest midfielder is keen on a move to Manchester United and working under manager Ruben Amorim.
“Sources have told TEAMtalk that Elliot Anderson is Man Utd’s top midfield target in 2026.
“While Nottingham Forest are said to be demanding £120 million for Anderson, TEAMtalk understands that Man Utd are confident of striking a deal for the 23-year-old for half of that sum – £60m.
“Man Utd insiders have told us that Anderson himself would be “very keen” on a move to Old Trafford.”
This is great new for Amorim but he has more pressing needs to attend to at the minute. Should Mainoo depart, INEOS will need to bring in someone as cover.
Joao Gomes, or Ruben Neves have been earmarked as market opportunities. It will be interesting to see who lands up at the Theatre of Dreams in the winter.
