Elye Wahi has been selected by Côte d’Ivoire for this summer’s World Cup, with the OGC Nice striker informed on Friday afternoon.
According to Nice-Matin, the tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July, and the call-up means he can extend his season beyond the Coupe de France final and any potential play-offs.
The 23-year-old, on loan at Nice since the winter window, has been included by selector Émerse Faé, a former Nice player. The squad also includes former Nice midfielder Jean-Michaël Seri.
Wahi is set for the first major international tournament of his career. He won his first cap in March and has scored seven goals in 16 matches for Nice.
The Elephants open against Ecuador on 15 June, then face Germany on 20 and Curaçao on 25.
