Corinthians beat Ferroviária 1-0 at Estádio Alfredo Schürig (Fazendinha), and Emily Lima welcomed the visit of Jesse Lingard’s daughter, Hope, who is in Brazil.
According to Meu Timao, Hope also joined Wednesday’s training with the Brabas, played with the squad and was accompanied by her father at the training centre.
Lima said the experience was valuable mainly for the youngster, who saw Brazilian women’s football up close and met players known worldwide. She called Corinthians’ gesture to bring her in very positive.
She noted the joy in Hope’s eyes, adding the youngster wanted to stay until the end, though her father wanted her to watch his session. Lima said football’s passion crosses borders and oceans, and they felt responsible for welcoming her well and showing a little of their game.
Hope lives in England and wants a career in football, like her father. She regularly posts training clips, undertakes specific development work and represents CDC Academy (Cameroon Doherty Coaching). Lingard tracks her progress and often trains alongside her, sharing videos when in the country.
Hope will not be present for Corinthians’ next game on 21 July, the Copa do Brasil round of 16 against Ferroviária at Arena Fonte Luminosa at 20:00, a single-leg tie for a quarter-final place.
