It was another landmark moment for a member of the Celtic FC Women squad on Sunday as Emma Lawton marked her 50th appearance for the Hoops.

Not only did the full-back help mark that appearance with an emphatic win but also grabbed a double in the 9-1 victory over Queen’s Park.

That result helped the Ghirls book their place in the last four of the Sky Sports Cup, with a semi-final to look forward to in January.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, the defender reflected on the team’s performance, insisting that the squad were happy with their clinical edge.

She said: “It was a really positive performance. It was nice to get different types of goals, and we showed a professional side today.

‘Hopefully, we can build on those positives and take that into next week’s game.’

“We know we’ve got goals across the pitch and we kind of did a bit of analysis this week and showed different ways that we can score.

“It was nice to see that come off today and hopefully, next week at Ibrox we can do the same.

“This week in training, we put a lot of focus into that. We wanted to try and be more clinical and take our chances.

“I think even today we had a tonne more chances as well. So, it was good to score the nine, but still definitely chances we can finish.”

With the full-back scoring a double, it took her tally for the season to three, having grabbed her first of the campaign a few weeks ago.

Both goals were finishes that a striker would be proud of, with the defender popping up inside the area to turn home a goal either side of the half-time whistle.

Lawton was proud to grab a double on her 50th appearance, and she hopes there are many more to come.

Now for the entire Celtic squad, eyes are on a return to league action on Friday evening as they travel to face Rangers at Ibrox.

“I think for my first goal, everybody was maybe wondering what I was doing up on the left-hand side of the box!

‘I’m not really sure myself, to be honest! But it was nice to contribute to the team.’

“It’s a great achievement to have made my 50th appearance for the club. Especially to do that in such a short space of time.

“So, I’m really proud to have done that for this club and hopefully, many more to come.

“We know Friday night is going to be a big game. So, we’ll rest and recover and looking forward to that one.”
