Emmanuel Grégoire’s election as Paris mayor has reopened the door for Paris Saint-Germain to buy the Parc des Princes and remain there. According to L'Équipe, it brings back a concrete option as the club explored alternatives in Massy and Poissy.

Grégoire had said he was ready to sell the ground to PSG and had architects produce a detailed plan, a pledge contingent on winning office, which happened on Sunday. News that Nasser al-Khelaïfi sent a congratulatory message then fed talk of a thaw.

Club figures welcomed the result, yet it is too early to read much into that exchange. The club also congratulated re-elected mayors in Massy, Poissy and Saint-Germain-en-Laye, and informal contacts with Grégoire’s camp had already taken place during the campaign. The report added that PSG never fully abandoned the Parc and may now face a dilemma, with sentiment pulling towards Paris and business pointing elsewhere.

PSG have studied ways to lift the Parc’s capacity from about 48,000, including changing the rake of the stands and bringing the ends closer to the pitch, which could add nearly 10,000 seats. By moving to the suburbs, capacity between 65,000 and 80,000 could be considered, and research suggests it could be filled, albeit with a partly different crowd profile. Hospitality, the cornerstone of ticket income and future growth, is also central to any new build.

Outside Paris, the club are working on broader urban projects, including shops, a multi-purpose venue, leisure facilities and housing, which are more complex than if it stays in the 16th arrondissement. Grégoire’s ideas to grant, in a legal form to be defined, the area around Stade Géo-André, the Total station and its car park may or may not satisfy the club’s plans for a so-called PSG Land, a label it dislikes.

Both sides will now enter detailed talks. For Massy and Poissy, PSG had aimed to decide in autumn 2026. With the Paris option back on the table, that timeline might slip.
