England fitness worries continue as Bukayo Saka trains alone ahead of Ghana clash

Arsenal star carrying niggling injury as World Cup campaign continues

Bukayo Saka missed training on Saturday to do an individualised programme, as England prepare to face Ghana in their second World Cup match.

The Arsenal winger will now be considered something of a doubt for the match in Foxborough on Tuesday, with a start certainly appearing unlikely.

The Three Lions made a winning start to their campaign in the United States, dispatching Croatia in an exciting opener.

And they have the chance to book their place in the round of 32 with a win over Ghana, though it remains to be seen whether one key player will be able to feature.

Saka arrived in camp with a nagging Achilles injury, which limited him to just shy of 20 minutes off the bench against the Croats. Noni Madueke started on the right flank in his place.

And it does not appear he will be fit to start against Ghana, either, after he trained separately on Tuesday, three days before the tie.

Thomas Tuchel is hopeful he will be fit to complete 90 minutes by the time England face Panama in their third and final group-stage fixture.

Saka was the only absentee from training on Saturday. Harry Kane and Declan Rice both came out of the Croatia match with apparent niggles, but both were present at the Swope Soccer Village.

Trevoh Chalobah, who earned a late call-up after Tino Livramento was injured in training, was also present in a full training session for the first time.

England’s training session on Saturday took place in front of some guests, as players from the baseball teams Kansas City Royals and St Louis Cardinals were invited to watch on from their Swope Soccer Village base.
