The Eagles signed off for the summer with a friendly win, although the occasion was marred by an injury to Aurèle Amenda.
When the Eintracht team bus arrived at the Sportpark am Lindenberg an hour before kick-off against SC Weimar, the players were greeted by glorious sunshine, 5,000 fans and the smell of grilled Bratwurst.
The Eagles’ second and final friendly game sandwiched in between the end of the Bundesliga season and the summer break attracted huge interest, with tickets for the match selling out in a matter of hours.
Igor Matanovic (5’) and Metehan Yildirim (20’) put Eintracht 2-0 in front but Aurèle Amenda had to be replaced by Timothy Chandler in the 34th minute after catching his studs in the turf.
Further goals from Michy Batshuayi (48’) and Matanovic (58’) early in the second half gave Dino Toppmöller’s side a 4-0 lead before Hannes Boden reduced the deficit for the hosts – much to the delight of the home crowd (76’).
Niko Ilicevic (81’) and Aiden Harangi (83’) scored in quick succession for Eintracht to make it 6-1, while Kevin Trapp received appreciative applause when, playing as an outfield player again, he set up Rasmus Kristensen for the team’s seventh and final goal of the day. The action was rounded off at the final whistle with a pitch invasion from the fans.
The Eagles now have a six-week summer break before undergoing performance tests at the beginning of July with a view to beginning preparations for the 2025/26 campaign.
“That was a Champions League evening for us,” said a Weimar fan representative afterwards.
