Manchester City are still believed to be a potential new home for Rodrygo this summer, in the view of the player’s entourage.
Rodrgyo has been linked with a sensational switch to the Etihad Stadium in the final weeks of the transfer window as doubts linger over the 24-year-old’s prospects under newly-appointed Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso.
City have added Rayan Cherki to their attacking ranks this summer, with Oscar Bobb looking the part since his long-awaited return from injury and Jack Grealish joining Everton on loan for the 2025-26 campaign to stake a claim in England’s FIFA World Cup squad next summer.
Savinho has attracted strong interest from Tottenham in the last week, with the 21-year-old Brazilian believed to be unsure of his future at Manchester City and open to joining forces with Thomas Frank in north London.
However, a senior figure in Manchester City’s hierarchy is understood to be blocking a potential deal with Tottenham for Savinho, who was missing from City’s travelling squad for their Premier League opening day victory over Wolves at the weekend.
Tottenham are believed to have made an initial offer of €70 million for Savinho, who is under a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium after joining Manchester City from CFG-owned side Troyes last summer.
Manchester City’s pursuit of Rodrygo is heavily contingent of how the final weeks of the summer transfer window play out for Savinho, who was not involved against Wolves for fitness reasons cited by Guardiola.
City do not wish to sell Savinho and consider the young forward part of their plans for the future but remaining willing to sanction a sale should the Brazilian inform the club he wants to leave and an acceptable offer be tabled.
There have been indications this week that Manchester City have decided against a possible departure for Savinho in the final fortnight of the transfer window, which is likely to put an end to a possible deal with Real Madrid for Rodrygo.
However, according to a new report from TNT Sports Brazil, Rodrygo’s departure from Real Madrid is still not ruled out this summer and a move to Manchester City is reportedly seen as a possibility by the player’s entourage.
Speaking after Real Madrid’s 1-0 La Liga win over Osasuna on Tuesday night, manager Xabi Alonso – as per Fabrizio Romano – said of his unused substitute Rodrygo, “Nothing is happening. I count on Rodrygo of course, it’s just a game. This was my decision.”
Rodrygo is understood to be keen on moving to the Etihad Stadium and is weighing up his options away from the Spanish capital, with Real Madrid believed to be valuing the 24-year-old forward at €100 million.
