Manchester United are currently scrambling to find a successor for Ruben Amorim, who was sacked on Monday following his explosive post-match comments after the game against Leeds.
Disagreements with football director Jason Wilcox over tactics and transfers, as well as his emotional outburst, proved to be the final straw for INEOS.
The co-owners have placed Darren Fletcher in interim charge, and are planning to appoint a permanent manager in the summer when there will be a larger pool to choose from.
There are even plans to bring in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to oversee games till the current season concludes, while INEOS continue their search in the background.
One name which has gained prominence due to his free agency status is Enzo Maresca, who was recently sacked by Chelsea.
Despite winning the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup, the Blues decided to part ways with the former midfielder, with United playing a small role in the decision.
He is on the shortlist of targets, with Teamtalk now revealing that the Italian’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has had contact with Old Trafford officials.
The former Chelsea boss would be interested in taking over from Amorim with Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada fans of the former Manchester City assistant manager.
“Enzo Maresca is interested in replacing Ruben Amorim as the manager of Manchester United.
“Maresca’s camp, led by recently appointed super-agent Jorge Mendes, have already had contact with Man Utd as they assess their options.
“Man Utd CEO Omar Berrada is an admirer of Maresca stemming back from their time together at Manchester City. Sporting director Jason Wilcox is also understood to be a fan and believes he has the right temperament to succeed under the Old Trafford spotlight.”
As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, it was Berrada who brought him back to the Etihad to assist Pep Guardiola.
Together, they helped the noisy neighbours clinch the treble, while he also won the Championship with Leicester City and helped them gain promotion back to the Premier League.
