Standard Liege have failed in their attempts to sign Stoke City’s Eric-Junior Bocat (26), according to a report from Sacha Tavolieri.

With the transfer window in the Belgian Pro League still open, Standard Liege have been looking to bring in defensive reinforcements.

Initially, the Belgian side had made a move to sign RC Strasbourg Alsace defender Eduard Sobol (30). The Ukraine international has featured rarely for Strasbourg since making the move back in 2023, and spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan back in Belgium with KRC Genk.

Standard Liege could make Bocat approach in January

However, their attention then turned to Bocat. The Frenchman joined Stoke City from Sint-Truiden back in 2024 for a €1.2m fee, was a priority target for Standard Liege, but a deal could not be done. With the EFL Championship club unable to source a replacement, Stoke City and Mark Robins opted to retain the Frenchman.

However, Tavolieri understands that Standard Liege could make another approach during the January transfer window.
