According to Patrick Berger, former Manchester United beach coach Erik Ten Hag could replace Nuri Şahin in the Borussia Dortmund dugout by Wednesday.
It has previously been reported that the Dortmund head coach is under significant pressure to turn the results around at the Westfalenstadion amid a poor campaign that currently sees Die Schwarzgelben occupying a spot in the bottom half of the Bundesliga table.
Since returning from the Winterpause, BvB have fallen to three straight defeats at the hands of Holstein Kiel, Bayer Leverkusen, and Eintracht Frankfurt, leaving Şahin in a difficult position—something the 36-year-old is fully aware of.
Previous reports have linked Erik Ten Hag to the Dortmund job, and it is understood that he would now be the person to replace Şahin, with Sandro Wagner and Roger Schmidt ruling themselves out of a move to Dortmund.
As well as this, a decision on the future of the club could be made by Wednesday.
As stated within the report, those in charge at BvB view Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Bologna as a final for Şahin.
Should Dortmund fail to come away from Italy with a positive result, then it will be the end of the road for the 36-year-old, opening the door for Ten Hag, who has been the shadow coach for the past two weeks.
Speaking after defeat in Frankfurt, Lars Ricken explained:
“Nuri will be on the bench against Bologna, but of course, we all know that; Nuri knows that too, with the clear expectation that we now simply need victories and successes.”
