Esperance de Tunis captured the Tunisian Super cup title on Sunday night with narrow 1 - 0 victory over Stade Tunisien in tense final held at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium in Rades.

Belaïli’s Controversial Penalty

The only goal of the match came in the 39 minute when Algerian international Youcef Belaili converted penalty following disputed decision by referee Houssam Boularas.

Stade Tunisien players protested vigorously especially in the absence of VAR which heightened the tension on the pitch.

Esperance Dominate, Stade Threaten on Counters

The game began cautiously until around the 15 minute when Esperance gradually took control. Stade Tunisien relied on counter attacks and nearly shocked the favorites with 2 clear chance wasted by Khalil Ayari & Bonheur Mugisha.

In the 2nd half, the intensity dropped notably with play concentrated in midfield. The best chance to extend the lead came late as Ismail Diakite’s powerful strike hit the post in the 75 minute.

Record Breakers

With this triumph, Esperance further extend their lead as the most successful club in Super cup history, now holding 8 more titles than rivals Etoile du Sahel. Meanwhile Stade Tunisien failed to add 2nd title to their name with their sole win dating back to 1966.
