Esquel hosted from seven to 12 June the latest Copa de Oro Sur de Futsal Femenino, one of Argentina's leading tournaments, with 16 teams and more than 270 players. UPSAP of Caleta Olivia were crowned 2026 champions after a strong week.

Matches were staged at Gimnasio Municipal and Escuela N° 112 over six days, delivering high-level contests and reinforcing Esquel's status as a national host, according to SuperDepor.com.

The field included seven sides from the cordillera, plus representatives from the meseta and the province's south, strengthening the women's futsal pathway and fostering inter-regional exchange.

Marcelo Millamán, president of the Asociación de Futsal de Esquel, said the city must keep promoting events like this and thanked those whose backing made it possible, citing mayor Matías Taccetta and the municipal Sports and Tourism departments.

He said such tournaments bolster women's futsal and bring tourism and economic activity to Esquel. He noted many visiting delegations enjoyed the city's attractions during their stay.

With snow arriving on the hill, many players and families saw snow for the first time. Municipal coordination provided tourist information and support so delegations could visit key sights and enjoy the city's recreational offerings.
