After such a crushing defeat for Chelsea yesterday, there are predictably some really good pieces going around about where the club stand as another season falls away without major success.

We particularly enjoyed Dom Smith’s look at the club’s current fortunes.

“An 8-2 aggregate defeat was a humiliation that raised serious questions about whether the project at Stamford Bridge is a work in progress or regress,” he wrote, pointing out that “the potential repercussions of this are major: one-way tickets out of the club for Chelsea’s best players.”

Key players could follow Enzo out of Chelsea

After the game Enzo Fernandez put doubt on his future for the first time, and he likely wouldn’t be the only departure if we fail to compete.

“Will Cole Palmer stick around if a top four/five finish is treated like the promised land? If Chelsea have kept hold of Estevao in three years’ time, they will have done well.”

Losing Enzo is one thing, losing fan favourites like Estevao and Cole Palmer would be another. Right now the signings of those two are some of the few positives that have come out of the last few years of this ownership. Lose them and there will truly be nothing left to cling onto.

In other news…

Liam Rosenior is safe in his job for now it seems, but not really because of anything he’s done well.

Chelsea had some tough team decisions to make over the two legs, but Rosenior without doubt bungled two of them.
