Polanski said the team had highlighted set pieces before kick-off, mainly corners or crossed free-kicks, and welcomed Stöger’s interpretation. He did not hide his surprise and stressed he was extremely happy for the midfielder.

Elvedi wore the armband with Rocco Reitz suspended. He described a strenuous, high-intensity contest and called the strike outstanding, adding the side head into the weekend in good spirits and are looking forward to next week’s derby against Köln.

Indonesian international and penalty-kick specialist Kevin Diks also lauded the effort, saying he sensed something special as the ball left Stöger’s foot. He was delighted for his teammate and felt the moment was deserved due to Stöger’s hard work.
