Liverpool are going to have to sell some of their players this summer to be able to bring new players through the Anfield doors.
The Reds have a lot of making up to do during the 2026-27 season with their fans getting rather annoyed with them towards the end of the last campaign.
Nothing seemed to be going the Reds' way at all, and, even when it did, something else always popped up to move them off the right path.
In the end, they settled for fifth place, just scraping Champions League qualification.
This is far from the level that Liverpool need to be at but, since change is on its way this summer, everyone involved with the Anfield outfit will be hoping for improvements but, before the window even opened, the club very nearly shot themselves in the foot.
Ever since Alisson joined Liverpool back in 2018, he's been a rock at the back for the Premier League team.
The Brazilian has helped keep his backline in check during his entire time at Anfield and, with the help of Virgil van Dijk, he's even been a part of some of the world's best defences.
Indeed, injuries have caught up with him a little bit over the last couple of years but, when fit, he's still easily one of the best 'keepers in the world.
That's why it made no sense that the club were considering allowing him to leave L4.
In fact, a fresh report from La Gazzetta dello Sport has even just shared that Alisson spoke to the European giants back in spring about a potential move.
"Former CEO Comolli had guaranteed Alisson to Spalletti, and Liverpool's reneging on their initial promise to the Brazilian is one of the reasons (but not the only one) that led to the rift between the manager and the former Toulouse president," they wrote.
"Sporting director Ottolini had met Alisson in person, and Spalletti considered the Roma player a new player on his "pitches" but hadn't reckoned with Liverpool's irritation."
Alisson may not have played as many games as Liverpool would've liked this season but, during those games that he featured, he was one of their best players.
Even though almost every other area of their squad failed to impress, whenever Alisson was between the sticks, things felt much calmer.
Giorgi Mamardashvili is obviously a solid 'keeper but, since he's only 25 years old and is nowhere near as good as the Brazilian at distributing the ball or shot-stopping, it feels like he's a liability.
The Georgian is obviously still fairly young for a goalkeeper so he still has time to grow but, at the moment, he is not ready to be Liverpool's number one.
Iraola already has enough on his plate to try and deal with this summer so, if Liverpool did end up going through with moving Alisson on, they would've almost certainly been in a worse place.
Here's hoping that the Reds' decision to keep him works out and sends them closer to winning the Premier League title.
