Tottenham Hotspur are carefully navigating a pivotal moment in their season, with Ange Postecoglou’s future becoming a central topic of discussion behind the scenes according to TEAMtalk. While immediate decisions are not expected, contingency planning is well under way as Spurs head into the business end of their campaign with a Europa League lifeline.
Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to Wolves at home was the latest blow in what has become a deeply disappointing Premier League season. The loss leaves Tottenham 15th in the table, staring at their lowest finish since 1993/94.
Postecoglou, who took over last summer with high expectations, remains under scrutiny. His assertion that he “always” wins silverware in his second season will be tested once more as Spurs prepare for a decisive Europa League quarter-final second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt. The tie is finely poised at 1-1, and lifting the trophy could offer both salvation for the season and Champions League qualification.
Club insiders acknowledge that while there are calls from sections of the fanbase for Tottenham to sack Postecoglou, no snap judgment will be made before season’s end. The focus internally is on finishing the campaign as strongly as possible, with the European campaign carrying significant weight.

Tottenham’s leadership, including chairman Daniel Levy, has initiated plans for an in-depth review of all departments at the club—Postecoglou’s performance included. While such assessments typically wait until the summer, this one could carry greater consequence due to Spurs’ poor form.
Levy remains aware of the context. Injuries have disrupted Spurs’ progress, and efforts were made in January to reinforce Postecoglou’s squad. One significant move saw Bayern Munich starlet Mathys Tel pursued aggressively, a deal personally overseen by Levy himself.
But with the squad failing to deliver consistent results, patience is thinning. A strong finish in both Europe and the league is considered essential to tipping the balance in the Australian’s favour.
Should the club opt to part ways with Postecoglou, Tottenham already have a shortlist of candidates in mind. TEAMtalk reports that Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola is a prominent figure under consideration. Cherries owner Bill Foley is working hard to retain the Spanish tactician, having held recent talks about his future and plans for the club.
Marco Silva of Fulham and Brentford’s Thomas Frank are also among the names Tottenham are monitoring closely. Both managers have built impressive reputations in the Premier League, showcasing tactical stability and long-term vision—qualities that Spurs may seek should a transition become necessary.
Though previously linked, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna is not currently understood to be in serious contention, with no approaches made to the Championship club or the coach himself.
Spurs’ succession planning will soon be overseen by new CEO Vinai Venkatesham, formerly of Arsenal. He is set to begin in the summer and will work closely with Levy to craft the club’s strategic vision moving forward.
While no definitive decision has been made, Tottenham’s preparedness for potential change is telling. Even if Postecoglou manages to steer Spurs to Europa League glory, questions over his long-term future are unlikely to fade quickly. The next few weeks will be defining—for both manager and club.
