Everton are interested in signing the Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio at the end of the season.
According to reports from Spain, West Ham United are keen on the 23-year-old defender as well, but Everton have emerged as the main contender to get the deal done. They are now preparing a formal €30 million offer to sign the player.
It has been an impressive season for Everton so far, and they will look to finish as high as possible. They are targeting European qualification next season and need to further improve the team. Asencio could be a quality addition for them.
The young defender needs regular gametime, and Real Madrid will not be able to provide him with that opportunity. A move to the Premier League could be ideal for him. Regular football in England could help him improve further and fulfil his tremendous potential.
Everton are eighth in the Premier League table, and they will feel they could have done much better if they had been more organised at the back. They have let in 35 goals in 31 league matches. They need to tighten up at the back if they want to compete at a high level. Signing a quality defender in the summer should be an absolute priority for them.
West Ham United are fighting for survival in the Premier League. They might not be a very attractive destination for the Spanish defender. It will be interesting to see if they can secure safety in the top flight. They have been quite poor defensively as well, and it is no surprise that they are keen on the Real Madrid player.
