Everton will face Leeds United at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday, bolstered by the win against Aston Villa as well as the return of several key players.
The Toffees will also be desperate to make amends after suffering a 1-0 loss to Daniel Farke’s side at Elland Road in their first fixture of the season. They will head into this game with confidence, knowing that three points here will help them close the gap to the top four to just a single point.
A depleted and stuttering Everton side secured a brilliant 1-0 victory on the road against third-placed Aston Villa the last time around. Unai Emery’s side had won 11 games on the bounce across all competitions before facing the Blues. Thierno Barry’s near-post chip close to the hour mark secured the side’s first win of 2026. It also lifted the Toffees into the top half of the standings, with only four points separating them and the top four.
Last week has been quite chaotic for the club. Everton have welcomed back Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gana Gueye following their victorious AFCON campaign with Senegal, but have lost Jack Grealish for potentially the remainder of the season with a foot injury.
Jarrad Branthwaite, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Charly Alcaraz have also resumed training with the group, but Monday’s fixture against Leeds United could be deemed too soon for a return.
While Everton’s away form has been brilliant - they have won four and lost just one of their last seven contests - their recent record at Hill Dickinson Stadium leaves a lot to be desired, having lost three and drawn one of their last four games at the waterfront venue.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s return to Merseyside will be an interesting subplot. Calvert-Lewin, who left the club after nine years this summer, has scored nine goals for the Yorkshire-based outfit this season.
Leeds United overcame their four-game winless streak with a 1-0 win over Fulham last Saturday, after Lukas Nmecha scored in injury time. They are currently 16th in the league table and haven’t won in the league since their 4-1 triumph over Crystal Palace in December.
Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gana Gueye received a hero’s welcome at Finch Farm after winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal. The pair only returned to training on Friday, with head coach David Moyes stating that they will need to undergo a medical assessment in order to determine their availability for this clash.
However, Jack Grealish’s stress fracture in his foot comes as a crushing blow to the side. The Manchester loanee is expected to be out for several months and could potentially miss the remainder of the season.
The suspended Michael Keane will also miss this clash. Although Branthwaite, Dewsbury-Hall and Alcaraz have returned to full training, it remains to be seen whether they will be able to make the matchday squad for this game. Tim Iroegbunam, however, remains out with an unspecified injury.
Everton’s predicted starting XI: Jordan Pickford (GK), Nathan Patterson, James Tarkowski, Jake O’Brien, Vitalii Mykolenko, James Garner, Harrison Armstrong, Merlin Rohl, Dwight McNeil, Thierno Barry, Iliman Ndiaye.
Everton: D-W-L-D-W

It won't be the half-way line, Darren. If anyone has suggested that, they are in for a disappointment.
It will be a higher line though.
