Man City boss Pep Guardiola says does not understand why Erling Haaland is whistled for so many fouls on defenders.

The Norway international has been in prolific form again this season, scoring 26 goals in 29 games in all competitions.

But he has netted just once in his last four league games, an underperformance by his high standards.

And while Guardiola says fatigue is impacting the centre-forward.

“God bless, we have Erling in our team right now, and all the season,” Guardiola said. “We are fortunate to have him. Without him, we would not be in the position that we are right now.

Asked if he helps the team in other aspects than just scoring, Guardiola continued: “Yes, a lot. He’s getting better in many things, but it’s a lot of games. You have an incredible period, four games in every three days, three days, three days. The recovery is less with troubles and tough conditions, central defender stuff. Yes, it’s difficult, but he’ll be back.”

The City boss also believes that Haaland is being harshly treated by officials.

“He’s the only striker I’ve seen in my life, he makes more fouls to the defenders than defenders to him,” Guardiola said.

“I never saw like that. In the beginning of the season, the referee said it would be the opposite, but it’s completely the opposite, honestly.

“Every time Erling touches the opponent, it’s a foul from Erling. So, I don’t understand.”
