Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu could make his return from injury against Lecce.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Turk’s recovery is progressing relatively swiftly.
At the moment, Calhanoglu is on the sidelines with an injury.
The 30-year-old suffered a calf strain. This is separate from the thigh problem which forced him off during the first half of the Supercoppa Italiana final against AC Milan.
It always looked clear that Calhanoglu would take at least two or three weeks to recover from his injury.
There had been the real risk of the Turk being out until February.
And with Inter playing twice a week for the remainder of January, that would have meant missing quite a few matches for Calhanoglu.
However, according to the Gazzetta, Calhanoglu’s injury recovery process has been progressing without any real setbacks.
Therefore, the former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder could return before the end of the month.
Calhanoglu certainly won’t be back for upcoming matches against Empoli or Sparta Prague.
However, the Serie A match away to Lecce on the 26th of January could be a realistic return date.
After that, there is a match against Monaco in the Champions League. That’s Inter’s final outing in the “league phase” of the competition.
Then, at the start of February it’s the big one. Inter face city rivals AC Milan in the second league derby of the season.
