Ex-Feyenoord chief reveals he was "actively working" on Givairo Read's move to Bayern last winter | OneFootball

Former Feyenoord technical director Dennis te Kloese reveals Bayern Munich were in serious negotiations to sign Givairo Read last winter.

“Before the winter break last year, I was actively working on a transfer for Read to Bayern Munich,” Te Kloese told newspaper De Telegraaf.

"At that point, several other clubs also entered the race. Their offers were all around the €25million mark, with some going slightly higher. 

"The plan last winter was to finalize the transfer, let Givairo stay at Feyenoord for another six months, and then have him make the move in the summer.

But then Givairo suffered two injuries. That ultimately put a stop to the deal," the former Feyenoord chief explained.

If the talented Dutch full-back hadn't suffered such an untimely blow, te Kloese is convinced Read would have made a big move abroad.

“I think that a year ago it was quite realistic that he would have joined a big club like Bayern Munich or one of the top clubs in England.

"But those clubs adopted a wait-and-see approach after he got injured. They wanted to see whether he could regain full fitness; return to his best level. 

"Otherwise, I think we would have reached an agreement with Bayern, because the interest was very concrete.

“I think Nottingham Forest now want to steal a march on the market and snatch Read away before one of the big clubs can sign him,” he added.
