Former Inter Milan star Felipe Melo slammed Frank de Boer over his embarrassing managerial tenure at San Siro.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInter1908, the retired midfielder also reflected on what it felt like to play in the Derby d’Italia.

Indeed, he arrived in Italy in 2008, joining Fiorentina from Almeria.

However, after just one year in Tuscany, he moved to Turin, signing for Juventus in a €25 million deal.

The Brazilian left Serie A in 2013 for Galatasaray, only to return to his old stomping ground two years later.

Moreover, he penned a short-term contract at Inter in 2015.

Despite his past at the Allianz Stadium, Melo spent the two final years of his European stint at Giuseppe Meazza.

There, he had a chance to work with Frank de Boer.

Yet, it was a brief experience, considering the Dutchman only lasted for a few months in the Nerazzurri dugout.

With the Derby d’Italia set to take place this weekend, Melo recalled his experience in this fixture.

“Great memories,” he said. “I was young and immature at Juventus. I made dozens of mistakes and paid for every single one.”

Then, he confirmed Inter wanted to sign him in 2009.

“Yes, but Corvino told me, ‘Either you go to Turin or you go to Turin. You have no other choice.’

“The Bianconeri paid the €25 million release clause and included Marchionni in the deal.

“Fiorentina didn’t take it well; they criticized me a lot.

“That’s where my first daughter was born, and I loved the Franchi and the city like never before.

“If I have to choose the two Italian teams I care about most, I’d say Fiorentina and, of course, Inter.”

Furthermore, he admitted that he will be cheering for Inter on Saturday.

“Inter is in my heart,” Melo continued. “At home, I still have the front page of Gazzetta after my goal against Verona, when I ran to kiss my wife.

“It was 2015; the headline read ‘Fuga al bacio.’

“When Mancini asked me to come, I didn’t hesitate for a moment. I just regret staying so little.”

Finally, he explained what went wrong for De Boer.

“He never understood football; he’s not capable. He even spoke badly about Gabigol, calling him ‘Gabi-ex-gol.’

“He didn’t speak Italian and annoyed everyone in the locker room.

“In fact, he lasted only three months and then left a trail of disasters everywhere. Thank God Pioli arrived that year.”
