Former Lazio midfielder Valon Behrami discussed his 3-year spell with the Bianconcelesti and reflected on the differences between Lazio fans and their Roma counterparts.
Speaking to the microphones of the Swiss broadcaster RSI Sport, Behrami — now a commentator for DAZN and a former footballer with an important past in Serie A — spoke of his experience at Lazio between 2005 and 2008.
The midfielder, who in his career also wore the shirts of Genoa, Hellas Verona, Fiorentina, Napoli, Udinese and Brescia, retraced in a light and disenchanted tone his three years in the city of Rome, marked as much by football as by life off the pitch.
“Roma fans always made fun of my hair, I had blond hair like that and so the joke was a classic in the city,” said Behrami.
“In the city, Lazio is less popular and less felt, while the feeling for Roma is much stronger,” he added.
“However, since you live in that city, any person you meet always tells you something. I have lived the clubs more than their history, to tell you, in three years in Rome I have never been to the Colosseum.”
“In the evening, after we left the clubs late at night, we passed by there, the square was completely empty, and I saw it from the window without getting out of the car, going straight home.”
