Sam Allardyce’s Downing Street gag went viral after Sir Keir Starmer said he would quit as Prime Minister, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk. The ex-Leeds United boss has leaned into podcasting and social media since leaving Elland Road.

Leeds turned to him in 2023, with four games left, sacking Javi Gracia, who had replaced Jesse Marsch, as Andrea Radrizzani’s board acted. Defeats to Man City, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur left them 19th and relegated, and he left by mutual consent before 49ers Enterprises’ takeover and Daniel Farke’s appointment.

He now fronts the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast and often revisits Leeds. After defeat by Aston Villa put Leeds in the relegation zone and sparked speculation over Farke’s job security, he said he watched the game, felt they did not play badly and believed fear of going down again and recent results had fuelled it.

He added there was talk over Farke even when he was promoted, said he could not see standout players but saw a good team, and that goals were going to be a problem again.

On Instagram, where he has just shy of 100k followers, Allardyce posted a photoshopped image at a lectern outside 10 Downing Street captioned, "Before anyone asks...no." The post has 97k likes and has been forwarded 60k times, and former Leeds forward Robert Snodgrass, his first signing at West Brom, urged him to do it until the end of the year, calling him Gaffa.
