Brighton have reportedly made a £30 million offer to Leeds United for a key player in Daniel Farke's squad

Paul Robinson has claimed that Brighton will come back with an improved offer for Leeds United attacker Georginio Rutter.

It was reported that the Seagulls made a bid worth £30 million for the Frenchman this transfer window already.

However, the Yorkshire outfit have turned down this offer as they look to hold onto one of the key players in Daniel Farke’s squad.

Rutter initially struggled at Elland Road following his big money move from Hoffenheim in 2023, but his performances in the Championship last year earned him a lot of praise.

The 22-year-old contributed six goals and 16 assists, as the Whites narrowly missed out on promotion back to the Premier League.

Paul Robinson predicts Leeds United to sell Georginio Rutter

Robinson expects Brighton to come back in with an improved offer for Rutter, as they chase the forward’s signature this summer.

The former goalkeeper has predicted that an agreement will be reached between the two clubs, leading to an inevitable sale.

“I don’t think £30 million is a bad price for Rutter,” said Robinson, via Football Insider.

“I’m surprised Leeds turned that bid down. They obviously think they can get more for him.

“I think he was sporadic during the season. Piroe had a good start to the season too, but neither of them scored the amount of goals you want from a number nine.

“I’d be surprised if Rutter didn’t leave.

“If Brighton are still at the table with that type of money already then that’s only going to be pushed up, but I think it’s a good deal.

“If they can get more than £30 million for Rutter, some of it can be reinvested in an out-and-out number nine. “Ideally, you wouldn’t want either him or Summerville to go because they were an important part of the squad last season.

“£30 million for Rutter would not be a bad deal as long as it goes back into the squad.”

Georginio Rutter’s importance to Leeds United

Rutter signed for Leeds in the 2023 January window for a club record fee worth £35.5 million.

The Frenchman failed to score in any of his 11 Premier League appearances, with the Whites suffering relegation to the Championship that summer.

But his performances improved massively once Farke arrived as manager, becoming one of the top players in the second division, and keeping the Frenchman could be key to the club’s fight for automatic promotion next season.

Leeds United hold strong Georgino Rutter position amid Brighton interest

Rutter has a contract with Leeds until the summer of 2028, giving them a strong negotiating position this year amid Brighton’s interest.

Losing him would be a real blow to Farke’s team, as it will be difficult to find a replacement that can replicate his ability without spending a lot to do so.

If an offer in the region of £40 million arrives it will be difficult to turn down due to Leeds’ financial position, which has improved with Gray’s departure but could still be better.
