The Sky Blues are taking a close look at former Cambridge United talent Dan Barton, FLW understands.
Former Cambridge United midfielder Dan Barton is in training with Frank Lampard's Coventry City as the Sky Blues take a closer look at the free agent, Football League World has exclusively been informed.
With 15 Championship games now in the books, no second tier side can smell the riches of Premier League promotion more strongly than Coventry City.
Lampard's Sky Blues are flying high at the top of the table, with 10 wins, four draws and just one defeat to their name, and have already forged a seven-point gap to Stoke City in third.
As such, there won't be a shortage of players eyeing up a move to the CBS Arena, as evidently, this is a team and club very much on the up under the Chelsea and England legend.

One such player who is trying to earn a contract with Coventry City is former Cambridge United midfielder, Dan Barton.
Football League World has exclusively been informed that the 20-year-old is currently in training with the Sky Blues, enabling Lampard and his coaching staff to take a closer look at the free agent before potentially signing him.
Having been with Cambridge from an early age, Barton would progress through the club's academy system before signing his first professional contract with them in June 2023.
Last season saw the versatile attacking midfielder - who can operate across the forward line - make his big first-team breakthrough with the U's.
Barton would make 20 senior appearances for the club last term, with 16 of those coming at League One level, as first Garry Monk and then Neil Harris' side were ultimately relegated to League Two.
However, in early October, the youngster would suffer a nasty injury, and would be forced to miss a significant amount of time after undergoing surgery following damage to his knee ligaments.

Given that he's in training with the Championship leaders following his release from now-League Two Cambridge United, Coventry clearly feel that he could be a diamond in the rough.
Lampard was one of the best midfielders of his generation, and indeed to ever play the game, and so it should excite City fans if Barton does win a deal with the club, as if he sees enough in the 20-year-old to sign him up, then that speaks volumes.
Whether it would be a signing for the academy or whether they have an instant first-team role in mind is as of yet unclear, but if it's the latter, then the addition of another versatile attacking player wouldn't go amiss.
Indeed, perhaps the biggest threat to Coventry's season is their relatively thin squad, and so should injuries, suspensions and general wear and tear of the Championship start catching up with one or two, then Lampard isn't currently blessed with a deep squad to cope with a possible crisis situation.
Therefore, someone like Barton could come in and provide that extra piece of cover in a number of forward positions, and who knows, may just be a gem waiting to get his big opportunity.
