Don Goodman has spoken about a potential move to Leicester for James Trafford.

Just months after making the switch to Manchester City, James Trafford is already seeing his minutes become limited following the signing of Men's Yashin Trophy winner Gianluigi Donnarumma.

After a fantastic Championship campaign with Burnley that ended in Premier League promotion, the Manchester City academy graduate returned to the Etihad and was handed the number one shirt under Pep Guardiola following his £27 million move.

However, the story of competing with Ederson for a place between the posts has since changed, with the opportunity to sign Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain being too good to turn down.

As per reports from TeamTalk, both Leicester and Southampton are interested in a loan move for Trafford when the transfer window opens in January.

It's believed that the goalkeeper is considering a temporary exit from Man City as he looks to compete for a place in Thomas Tuchel's England side ahead of next year's World Cup.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes that the goalkeeper would be a "big coup" for the Foxes as they look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Don Goodman speaks on potential Trafford-Leicester move

"From James' perspective, on the back of a record-breaking and amazing season in the Championship with Burnley, you want to be playing regular football," said Goodman when asked whether securing Trafford's signature would be a massive coup.

Trafford started the first three matches of the Premier League season for City; however, Italian international goalkeeper Donnarumma has since claimed the spot in between the sticks.

Goodman added: "That's always the risk when you move to a top Premier League club."

Leicester don't have as much of an issue in the goalkeeping department in comparison with Southampton, with Jakub Stolarczyk starting strong following the departure of Mads Hermansen over the summer.

Goodman acknowledged this: "For Leicester, it's not obvious that they need him [Trafford] with Stolarczyk starting well. But if they did get Trafford, it would be a big coup. But obviously, if you are Stolarczyk, then it is disappointing."

Trafford's move would mirror Donnarumma's

If Trafford were to make a move to Leicester in January, it would be history repeating itself.

The aforementioned Stolarczyk has started strongly for Leicester, with the Foxes not conceding a hatful of goals when compared to fellow relegated outfit Southampton.

The same can be said for Trafford following his City move, barring a small mistake against Tottenham, the youngster was beginning to prove that he was ready to carry the onus of being Guardiola's number one.

However, the chance to sign arguably the world's best goalkeeper in Donnarumma was always going to be too good to turn down, and the Italian has already made an impression.

At Burnley last season, Trafford was the cornerstone of their promotion-winning side. Alongside his 29 league clean sheets, he posted an 84.6% save percentage and prevented nearly 13 more goals than expected. Just like Donnarumma, this is simply too good to turn down for any Championship side.

A temporary move would benefit all parties, no matter the club. Trafford is in search of regular football ahead of the World Cup, and Leicester are looking for the Premier League.

It would be disheartening for Stolarczyk; however, a goalkeeper of Trafford's ability and pedigree in the Championship is too good for any side to refuse.
