It hasn’t quite been the season that Leicester City fans had been hoping for after their relegation from the Premier League.
The summer saw a number of key departures and arrivals. Big names like Jamie Vardy, Bilal El-Khannouss, James Justin, Mads Hermansen and Wilfried Ndidi all left the club.
One key arrival was the appointment of head coach Marti Cifuentes, who arrived after an impressive spell at QPR.
With financial issues and potential point deductions hanging over his head, it was always going to be a tricky situation to come in to.
With that being said, despite a solid start to the season, the Foxes currently sit 8th in the EFL Championship with 31 points from 21 games. That leaves them three points adrift from the Play-Off spots and 16 points behind league-leaders Coventry City.
Leicester City title-winner Marc Albrighton spoke excusively to EPL Index and shared his thoughts on the credentials of Cifuentes…

Speaking on the season so far, Albrighton said: “It’s always difficult when you get relegated from the Premier League and then losing key players who were big personalities in the dressing room, that doesn’t help either.”
The former midfielder was also keen to point out the importance of building up that bond with the supporters at the King Power Stadium.
“It’s so important to get the crowd on your side by putting in strong performances and this squad has to get them back on side by performing well at home as the support is great at Leicester and can give you a real boost.”
Albrighton also believes that Cifuentes hasn’t been the issue at all this season and even labelled him a “top coach”.
“I like Cifuentes, he has shown he is a top coach and we now need all the players to come together to pull in the right direction to get a good run of form together. Recruitment is now very important to add players who want to get to the Premier League and bring up the levels.”
Leicester City lost just one of their opening ten games prior to the 2-1 defeat at Hull City in October. That game started a run of just two wins in eight games, where pressure really built on Cifuentes.
But more recently, the Foxes have taken seven points from their last three games, including impressive wins over Derby County and Ipswich Town and a 2-2 draw with Bristol City.
Next up is a return to Loftus Road to face QPR for Cifuentes, who have only lost two of their last seven games and are level on points with Leicester.
A victory there would be absolutely huge and would give them some serious momentum as they head into the busy festive schedule.
