Manchester United have placed Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic at the top of their summer shortlist.

The Red Devils are expected to sign at least one new shot-stopper this summer, albeit it remains unclear whether they’ll be seeking a new No. 1 to replace Andre Onana, or an understudy who takes over from Altay Bayindir.

Sadly for Ruben Amorim, neither the Cameroonian nor the Turkish international have been particularly impressive between the posts.

Hence, sources close to Stretty News have confirmed that INEOS have put together a tad long ‘shortlist’, but Milinkovic-Savic could be the favourite solution.

Man Utd can bring back Vanja Milinkovic-Savic on affordable price

The Serbian is technically a former Man Utd player, having signed for the club in the summer of 2014. However, he was never able to acquire a UK work permit, which prompted his release without making an appearance for the club.

The giant goalkeeper went on to make a name for himself in Italy, particularly with Torino. He has been on the Granata’s books since 2017.

At the age of 28, Milinkovic-Savic may have hit his peak. He’s now widely considered one of the most reliable custodians in Serie A. He also boasts a remarkable record from the spot, saving 4 out of 7 penalty kicks this season.

The Serbian’s contract with Torino is valid until 2026, but it includes an option for an additional year. Nevertheless, his deal includes a release clause worth €20 million that can only be activated by foreign clubs before the end of July.

Nevertheless, the Reds aren’t alone in the race for Milinkovic-Savic, as the likes of Roma, Napoli, Milan, Monaco and Galatasaray have also enquired about his availability.

Man United’s goalkeeper ‘shortlist’ revealed

While MUFC have identified the Ourense native as their primary target, they are tracking several other alternative solutions. Jason Wilcox’s wishlist also includes Lucas Chevalier, Emiliano Martínez, Diogo Costa, Mike Maignan, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Jordan Pickford, Bart Verbruggen, and James Trafford.

Nevertheless, finding new accommodation for Onana remains fundamental in order to make room for a new No.1.
