Speaking exclusively with FLW, Lee Hendrie has been discussing Ipswich Town's potential move for Chelsea striker Marc Guiu.
Lee Hendrie believes that Marc Guiu could be a smart signing by Ipswich Town this summer.
It was reported by The Athletic earlier this week that the Tractor Boys are still tracking the 19-year-old as a potential addition after Liam Delap’s exit.
The forward made the switch to Chelsea, and now Guiu could go in the other direction on loan for the upcoming campaign.
Kieran McKenna will be keen to bolster his attacking options after losing Delap, with the club hoping to fight for promotion back to the Premier League over the next 12 months.
Hendrie has claimed that the loss of Delap will be significant for Ipswich, and that he has to be replaced with someone capable of scoring regularly.
He is hopeful that Guiu has the potential to be a really positive addition, suggesting he has what it takes to make the step up to senior football at Championship level.
“Ipswich obviously losing Delap, it’s key that they get someone in the door,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.
“The boy from Chelsea, Marc Guiu, he’s obviously been heavily linked.
“I think they need to push and try and bring someone in that can go and get them a hell of a lot of goals, really, and I’m not saying that yes, this is the key and this is the answer.
“This is going to be a bit of a gamble if they are to really push for this deal to happen.
“But again, I feel that we’re seeing a lot of younger players now racing to go out on loan and going to different clubs on a permanent basis where they get an opportunity to really shine.
“I’ve got a good feeling about this young man that he could step up and show that he’s got a bit of everything, he really has.
“So, they’re obviously keen to get this deal done because the loss of Delap is going to be a huge dent.”
Guiu made just three Premier League appearances last season, but played a role in Chelsea’s Conference League triumph with six goals from nine games.
Guiu is someone that has a lot of excitement surrounding his development, and he should be looking to go out on loan now to get regular game time.
Ipswich would be a great opportunity for the Spanish youth international, as they will be looking to fight for promotion next season.
The 19-year-old is still young and inexperienced, but we’ve seen players step up to the Championship at that age, or even younger, in recent years and excel.
As a loan, it would be a relatively small gamble by Ipswich, but they will need the former Barcelona striker to score goals if he does join given Delap’s exit.
