The suspense is building for the Ballon d'Or, the prestigious trophy awarded to the world's best footballer of the year.

For the 2025 edition, Africa has a real shot at clinching this individual honor, first established in 1956 by the French magazine France Football.

Foot Africa reached out to Toufik Korichi, former assistant coach of Algeria and sporting director of CR Belouizdad, who kindly shared his pick for the 2025 Ballon d'Or.

I believe that Spanish star Lamine Yamal is the player with the best chance to claim this trophy, for several reasons—most notably his outstanding season with Barça and his exceptional performances for the Spanish national team.In my view, he's on track to follow in the footsteps of legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who have dominated the football world over the past two decades. That said, it's essential that he is well supported by his entourage and club so he can maintain top form for as long as possible.As for Africa's main contender, Morocco's Achraf Hakimi, it's true he had an outstanding season with Paris Saint-Germain, but I don't see him winning the 2025 Ballon d'Or, especially since priority has always been given to forwards and midfielders.
