The Football Association have confirmed that Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with breaching anti-doping rules.

Mudryk has not played since November 28, with Chelsea confirming in December that the FA had contacted the club and Mudryk over an “adverse finding” in a routine drugs test.

The winger has been provisionally suspended since, with his last appearance for the club coming against Heidenheim in the Conference League.

And now the FA have confirmed he has been charged with breaching the rules, alleging that he used a banned substance, and potentially faces a lengthy ban of up to four years.

“We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations,” an FA spokesperson said.

“As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.”

Chelsea have said that Mudryk has “confirmed categorically that he has never knowingly used any banned substances”.

In a statement last year, Mudryk also said: “I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to the FA contained a banned substance.

“This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.

“I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can.”

It is believed the banned substance found was a performance enhancing drug called meldonium.

Mudryk joined Chelsea in an initial £62m deal in January 2023, along with a potential of £26.5m more in add-ons.
